Greetings!

My name is Craig and along with Molly, we’re parents who volunteered to be team coaches this fall for the U6C team 3. Our team color is green, and first order of business is picking a name. The temporary team name is Green Geckos but ask your kids about name ideas, and we can take a democratic vote between a few final choices Molly and I agree on.

I believe you all can now access our team page and roster at ayso44.org. In case you can’t find it we are team 44-6C-3. My apologies for contacting you so late, but we just received the team info late last week. We still don’t have a schedule, but the first game is next Saturday, 9/9. Games are every Saturday. All games this year (as I’ve been told) are at the Challenger School on Hollenbeck.

Ideally, we would try to set up a team meeting to go over some of the details (schedule, game rules for U6, parent involvement, safety) and to hand out uniforms, but given games start so soon, I think it’s best to just try and meet before the first game to go over all this stuff. I will follow up with a more detailed letter later this week. Two main points are that shin guards are required, and parents need to drop-off and pick-up their kids directly- I can’t let kids leave the park without a parent or authorized adult (probably not a big issue for U6).

About me, this is my second year coaching for AYSO. I grew up in Oregon and have lived in Santa Clara since 2012. I played soccer from about 2nd grade through high school.  I don’t get to play much anymore, but coaching AYSO is a really great experience, and I am excited for this season. Expect good fun practices and games, and your kids picking up some new skills and new friends. At this age, it is mostly about the most fundamental concepts of offense and defense, and having fun. We want to instill core memories of soccer being fun.

Games and Practice: For  6U, we only meet once a week, on Saturdays, with ~30 minutes of practice right before games. Games are only 20 minutes, and 3 on 3. We play two games simultaneously. Everyone plays.

Volunteers: We'll need parents to volunteer for the nets/goal setup and last season we had a snack coordinator which worked out well. I’ll go ahead and bring snacks for the first game. Also, let us know if any parent has signed up to be referee, or is interested (we need at least one). It’s a great way to join in the fun with your kids, contribute to AYSO, and you get a little exercise. See you on Sept 9th. I'll wear a red NASA T-shirt so you can't miss me!
