One of BLLB’s own, Joey, is putting up a tough fight to strikeout cancer! Rose Promotions has opened a store so you can buy a shirt to show your support for Team Joey.
Last June, Joey found a lump in his cheek and wasn’t painful, so he continued to play through BLLB Fall season and middle school football. After months of doctor and specialist visits, scans, a misdiagnosis, a failed procedure, and finally a biopsy, they found out on October 24th that Joey had cancer. He was diagnosed with Stage II Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma, which is an aggressive and extremely rare soft tissue cancer.
On November 15th, Joey's 13th birthday, he had 3 surgeries, got his port placed, and received his first of 42 weeks of chemotherapy treatment at Riley Children’s Hospital. Starting in February Joey and his parents lived in an apartment in Cincinnati for 6 weeks of daily radiation treatments at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
Joey recently started back at Brownsburg West Middle School just in time for the 7th grade middle school baseball season to start. While he is still receiving weekly chemotherapy and not able to fully participate yet, he is fully a part of the team. As often as he can, he attends practices and games to cheer on his friends and teammates while he waits as patiently as he can for the day he can walk out to the mound and lead his team from on the diamond.
